Often, the source of corporate greed is found in the most unlikely of places. For example, with regards to governmental regulations; For example, in the United States, where basically every department which oversees corporations, have individuals, also known as lobbyists, working to protect the special interests of both theirs and other similar corporations. Although, while there has been some mention of a plan to control same under the current administration, there is still more work to be done in order to overcome and regulate such corporate greed.
Recent court rulings in the United States now say that corporations are to be treated the same as individuals, thereby giving many corporations even more power than they had before. In having such powers, the corporations can now also donate unlimited amounts of money to a variety of political campaigns, which essentially then makes it possible to buy an election. In addition, while this is going on, at the same time the United States is also attempting to pass a health care bill, which keeps getting sidetracked due to private insurance industry concerns.
However, one area hardest hit by corporate greed, is in relation to a number of employees across the board, both those just starting work today, as well as those who are retiring after many years on the job. This is because the corporation profits greatly from such thought-out planning. Such plans often include getting rid old employees with experience and replacing them with individuals in a learning phase, that way the corporation can start new employees at lower wages and not have to extend retirement benefits to retiring employees. Talk about a gold mine of opportunity for greed, sadly the marketplace is full of these type of corporations who continue to lay off long time workers in exchange for those without experience or knowledge, which in turn not only profits the company, but can also effect consumers depending on what type of product a corporation manufactures.
Therefore, unless individuals agree to salary or hourly wages at the time one is hired, many of these practices often go unknown to anyone other than the corporation itself and any retiring employees or employees who have not been satisfied with regards to pay for overtime work. Otherwise, individuals just keep churning away, working tirelessly for an employer until a time one becomes a threat against corporate profits, at which time the employee is often let go, many times without any warning or severance package. Sadly, there is not much an individual can do in such cases, as the company generally provides some reason, often which can not be fought in court, for the layoff or termination of such an employee.
As corporations can be small or very large in size with regards to the number of employees one has working at any given time, not all corporate greed is as transparent. For example, many individuals worked for one corporation for years and only after one of these employees passed away, did their spouse find out that insurance coverage had been bought by the corporation to cover such employees, many of which, often work at minimum wage. Of course, as the corporation is the sole beneficiary, the corporation is the only one to see a return on their investment due to the death of such an employee, which can at times be as high as one million dollars, with the family receiving nothing. Therefore, while one may work for a corporation, even an insurance corporation, one need also carry their own separate life insurance policies with their named beneficiaries and heirs.
Also, while a good number of corporate firms use these poor business practices, there are also those who have great management teams who understand the importance of good, long-time employees and do everything in their power to protect same. However, it is the corporations who tend to pay low wages, lay off workers and misuse employees for their own use who cause the bulk of such problems. Therefore, the current trend in greening the planet along with a variety of new jobs in the area can often be a good place to look for both employment and investment opportunities. This is because these corporations generally have some sense of conscience, or they would not be working in the area of environmental improvement, unlike those who only use individuals as pawns with one goal and one goal only, to reveal large profit margins for the company. Of course, when a company profits, it benefits its executives through a variety of bonuses and other benefits. Often at the expense of many people who have been hired and fired within the last few years, as an effort to see such a result.
Last but not least, this excessive issue with corporate greed runs across many corporate platforms which is awakening many an entrepreneur to start their own home-based business, or at the very least work from home where possible. However, working at home is only good if one is working for someone other than one of the many greedy corporations which exist today. For, many of these corporations are so greedy not only do they hire direct employees at rates much lower than others doing the same work, there are also those that have moved offshore to avoid paying taxes to federal governments. An issue that has also become prevalent over the last several years in the United States as well as a few other countries. Therefore, such corporations, especially those based out of the U. S. Which only exist to gain as much as possible through the work of others working at wages, often equating to less than minimum wage, are no doubt the greediest of all.
Although, corporate greed is a problem all around the world, recently the United States has seen these issues multiply, especially with regards to retirees being laid off, others being hired at low wages and people being insured by such corporations for a great deal of money without their knowledge. Therefore, whether one is looking for employment or investment opportunities, one need be sure and watch for such poor business practices. Because if one is going to associate oneself with a company, one wants to assure the best investment or working relationship possible. A reality which can not be achieved while working with, or investing in, any corporation where corporate greed overrides the needs of the employees or investors in same.
One may ask how to overcome such corporate greed. While this is highly unlikely, it is not impossible. As one can overcome some aspects of greed through creating an agenda in which the corporation can understand how such business practices are poor and why. In addition, one can also definitely bring the situation to the attention of community business leaders, the community and local businesses. Last but not least, it will send an even louder message if one eats and shops at locally owned businesses where possible. Therefore, leaving the greedy corporation to fend for itself in the ocean of greed which it created.
Also, if one is effected directly by a company who has purchased life insurance on an employee without their knowledge or signature, the relatives of such deceased individuals need try every approach possible to settle with such a firm. Although, if that is not possible, a few relatives of deceased individuals with regards to such policies have taken corporations to court and won. However, one need have an excellent attorney who has dealt in corporate law for some time in order to be successful. For, only the best attorneys can go up against these greedy corporations and win. A win, which may also result in corporations questioning their poor business practices and in the end, eliminating at least some corporate greed from the marketplace in the future.
